Been watching games recently and noticed that the opposing teams generally play @ the basket facing the student section in the second half.

Memphis does not have that set up. Any idea why they wouldn't do that? It would seem better to have the opposition shooting into a hostile background at crunch time.
The mini-suites are on the opposite end of the student section. Since the student section is the upper level and lower level it would probably fit much worse on that end.

Also, I doubt they want to put the section over the locker room tunnel.
Teams play at the end opposite their bench during the 1st half, and on the same end as their bench the 2nd half. Since our bench is on the end of the court the students are, our team plays there 2nd half.
It would be ore feasible to change benches rather than the student section but neither of them seem to be worth it right now.
Back in the days of the Coliseum, the bench was on the other end of the floor from the band and student section. I got used to that look and it has seemed odd to have us on the other side of the scorer's table since.
Why is it that the team plays opposite their bench in the 1st half? Tradition, or is there a specific reason?

Coaches want to be closer to their players when they are playing offense in the 2nd half. No rule, just a coaching philosophy.
It is the choice of the visiting coach which way they go. Typically they do as you see. Once in a while, if a visiting coach wants to get under your skin, he will reverse it. That has happened in the Tigers past.

When they flip the coin the winner chooses offense or defense and the other team makes a decision to take the wind first or last. I know the wind is often really strong in the FEF because it always blows the parachuting T-shirts back into the lower decks.
I dont have my rule book with me but Im almost certain that there is no choice involved here. The home school designates both team benches prior to arrival and by rule, they always score in the goal opposite the bench. Ive never heard of this "visiting coach chooses" shenanigans but I have no proof against it.
